The Split Excel by Sheet tool creates one new Excel file for every worksheet in a workbook. Upload a .xlsx or .xls file, choose a naming pattern, and export each sheet as its own workbook without sending anything to a server.

⚙️ How the Split Works

The tool reads the workbook in your browser, loops through every worksheet, and generates a new workbook containing only that sheet. Each output file is written as .xlsx, even when the source workbook is an older .xls file.

Example: if a workbook contains Sales, Inventory, and Summary sheets, the tool creates Workbook_Sales.xlsx, Workbook_Inventory.xlsx, and Workbook_Summary.xlsx when the original-name pattern is selected.

🔎 Preview Before Splitting

Before you split the workbook, the preview lists each worksheet with its row and column counts. This makes it easy to see which sheets contain data and which sheets are empty before you generate files.

⚙️ Filename Patterns

• Original filename + sheet name keeps the workbook name and appends the sheet name.
• Sheet name only produces a compact file name such as Sales.xlsx.
• Custom prefix lets you define your own prefix, such as Workbook_Sales.xlsx.

⭐ Formatting Preservation

When preservation is enabled, the tool copies worksheet formatting where possible, including cell styles, column widths, row heights, and merged cells. This helps the split files stay as close as possible to the original workbook layout.

⚠️ Empty Worksheets

Empty worksheets are included by default. If you clear the checkbox, the tool skips any worksheet that has no data cells so you only export populated sheets.

3. Keep formatting preservation enabled if you want the sheet layout copied across.
