PDF Text Extractor helps you extract text from PDF online for free in your browser. It is designed for digitally generated PDFs and keeps reading order as much as possible by grouping and sorting text by page coordinates.
Upload one PDF file using drag and drop or the file picker. Extract text from all pages or from selected pages and ranges like 1-5, 8, 10-15. This is useful when you only need specific sections from long reports.
The tool shows a live preview while extraction runs. You can switch between continuous document view and per-page view, search inside extracted text, highlight matches, and jump to pages that contain your search term.
Choose extraction options like preserving paragraph and line breaks, merging hyphenated line-end words, removing excessive whitespace, keeping or removing page breaks, and optionally including page numbers in output.
After extraction, copy text directly or export as TXT, DOCX, HTML, Markdown, or JSON page-by-page. You can also print extracted text when you need a paper or PDF printout from your browser.
The extractor validates invalid files, empty PDFs, corrupted documents, password-protected PDFs, and unsupported versions. If no selectable text is found, it warns that the PDF likely contains scanned images and OCR is required.
You get instant metrics including character count, word count, estimated reading time, extracted pages, per-page statistics, language heuristic (if available), and a quality score based on how many pages contain selectable text.
All extraction runs client-side in your browser using PDF.js. Your PDF file never leaves your device, which keeps private documents local while you extract and export text.
