Text Counter & Analyzer

The Text Counter & Analyzer is an all-in-one text statistics calculator that counts everything in your text at once. Instead of using separate tools to count characters, words, sentences, paragraphs, lines, and spaces, you paste your text once and instantly get a complete statistical analysis β€” including word frequency, character frequency, whitespace details, numbers, links, Unicode information, readability scores, and text quality checks.

⭐ What Does This Text Analyzer Count?

  • Characters β€” with spaces, without spaces, and without any whitespace
  • Words, unique words, repeated words, and word lengths
  • Sentences, paragraphs, and lines, including length distributions
  • Spaces, tabs, line breaks, and other whitespace details
  • Letters, digits, punctuation, symbols, uppercase, and lowercase
  • Numbers, integers, decimals, percentages, dates, and times
  • URLs, domains, email addresses, hashtags, and @mentions
  • Unicode code points, grapheme clusters, and emoji
  • Reading time, speaking time, and readability scores

All results appear in a clear dashboard with detailed collapsible sections, so both quick totals and in-depth statistics are one paste away.

πŸ”Ž How the Text Counter & Analyzer Works

Type or paste your text into the input field. The analyzer recalculates every statistic automatically while you type. The most important counters β€” characters, words, sentences, paragraphs, lines, spaces, unique words, and reading time β€” are always visible in the statistics dashboard at the top of the results.

Detailed statistics are organized in expandable sections such as Word frequency, Whitespace, Numbers, Links & contacts, Unicode, Readability, and Text quality. Your original text is never modified: the tool only reads and measures it.

βš™οΈ Analysis Settings

The settings panel lets you tailor the analysis to your needs:

  • Case-insensitive word analysis β€” treat β€œWord” and β€œword” as the same word
  • Count punctuation as part of words β€” switch between clean tokens and raw whitespace-separated tokens
  • Include numbers as words β€” include or exclude numeric tokens
  • Exclude common stop words β€” hide words like β€œthe” and β€œand” from the frequency table
  • Minimum word length β€” filter short words out of the frequency table
  • Reading speed β€” adjust the words-per-minute value used for reading time
  • Sentence detection sensitivity β€” smart mode avoids false splits at decimals, URLs, emails, and abbreviations

πŸ’‘ Example

Input text:

Hello world! This is a test.
Visit https://example.com or email info@example.com.

The price is 12.50 and the meeting starts at 14:30.

A selection of the results:

  • Words: 22 β€” Unique words: 20
  • Sentences: 3 β€” Paragraphs: 2 β€” Lines: 4
  • URLs: 1 β€” Email addresses: 1
  • Decimal numbers: 1 β€” Times: 1
  • Plus full word frequency, character frequency, and readability data

πŸ“€ Exporting Your Results

You can copy the full analysis to your clipboard or download it as a TXT report, a CSV file (including the complete word-frequency table), or a structured JSON file that also contains your analysis settings.

⚠️ Privacy and Accuracy Notes

  • Your text is analyzed locally in your browser and is never uploaded.
  • Windows (CRLF), Unix (LF), and old Mac (CR) line endings are all handled correctly.
  • Emoji built from multiple code points are counted as one visible character where the browser supports grapheme segmentation.
  • Readability formulas use an English syllable heuristic and are hidden for texts that are clearly not Latin-script, to avoid misleading scores.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Text Counter & Analyzer counts characters (with and without spaces), words, unique words, sentences, paragraphs, lines, spaces, tabs, line breaks, letters, digits, punctuation, symbols, numbers, dates, times, URLs, email addresses, hashtags, mentions, and emoji. It also calculates word frequency, character frequency, readability scores, and reading time β€” all from a single input.

By default, words are detected as sequences of letters and digits, optionally connected by apostrophes or hyphens (like "don't" or "well-known"). Punctuation is not counted as part of a word unless you enable the "Count punctuation as part of words" setting, which switches to splitting on whitespace only.

One or more blank lines act as paragraph separators. Consecutive non-empty lines belong to the same paragraph. Windows (CRLF), Unix (LF), and old Mac (CR) line endings are all recognized correctly.

The main character count includes every character in your text: letters, digits, punctuation, symbols, spaces, tabs, and line breaks. Separate counters show characters excluding spaces and characters excluding all whitespace, and the Unicode section additionally shows code points and visible grapheme clusters.

Yes. Spaces are shown in the dashboard and broken down in detail in the Whitespace section: total spaces, tabs, line breaks, carriage returns, leading and trailing spaces, and runs of multiple consecutive spaces.

Yes, where your browser supports it. Many emoji are built from multiple Unicode code points (for example flags or family emoji). The analyzer uses grapheme segmentation so a multi-code-point emoji sequence is counted as one visible emoji instead of several separate characters.

No. Your text is analyzed locally in your browser using JavaScript and is never uploaded to a server, sent to an external API, or stored remotely. You can even use the tool offline once the page has loaded.

Yes. You can copy the complete analysis to your clipboard or download it as a TXT report, a CSV file that includes the full word-frequency table, or a JSON file that contains all statistics, frequency data, and your analysis settings.

"Characters" counts everything in your text, including spaces, tabs, and line breaks. "Characters excluding spaces" removes only standard spaces, while "Characters excluding all whitespace" also removes tabs and line breaks. Character limits on different platforms use different definitions, so all three are shown.

Reading time is the word count divided by your reading speed in words per minute (200 wpm by default, adjustable in the settings). The tool also shows slow and fast reading estimates and a speaking time estimate based on 130 words per minute.

Flesch Reading Ease scores range from 0 to 100 β€” higher means easier to read. The Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level estimates the US school grade needed to understand the text. Both formulas use an English syllable heuristic, so they are only shown when your text appears to be Latin-script.

In smart mode, the analyzer splits sentences at periods, exclamation marks, and question marks, but avoids false splits inside decimal numbers (3.14), URLs, email addresses, and common abbreviations such as Mr., Dr., e.g., and etc. You can switch to simple mode to split on every sentence-ending character.

Yes. The analyzer is optimized to handle several hundred thousand characters and uses debounced recalculation so typing stays responsive. For extremely large texts, a few expensive Unicode calculations are skipped gracefully and clearly indicated.
