 Remove HTML IDs

Remove HTML IDs from your markup with full control over which id attributes disappear. Paste your HTML, review every detected id attribute in an interactive list, then remove selected IDs or remove all IDs at once. The HTML id remover only deletes the id="..." attributes you choose and leaves your elements, classes, styles, data attributes, text content, and indentation exactly as they were. Everything runs client-side in your browser, so even large HTML documents stay private.

๐Ÿ†” Detected IDs

No IDs detected yet. Paste HTML in the input field to get started.

โญ Remove HTML IDs โ€“ Explanation & Examples

The Remove HTML IDs tool deletes id attributes from HTML code while giving you full control over which IDs actually disappear. Instead of blindly stripping every id="...", the HTML id remover scans your markup, lists every detected ID, and lets you select exactly which ones to remove โ€” or remove all IDs in one click.

๐Ÿ”Ž What does this HTML id remover do?

  • Detects every id attribute in your HTML, including duplicates
  • Shows the IDs in an interactive, searchable list with occurrence counts
  • Removes only the selected id="..." attributes
  • Offers a one-click Select all option to remove every ID at once
  • Never removes elements, text content, or other attributes
  • Keeps class, style, data-*, aria-*, and event attributes untouched
  • Preserves your original formatting and indentation
  • Runs entirely client-side, so large HTML documents stay private and fast

โš™๏ธ How to remove id attributes from HTML

  1. Paste your HTML into the HTML input field at the top (or use Paste HTML).
  2. Review the detected IDs in the Detected IDs list.
  3. Tick the IDs you want to remove, or click Select all to remove all IDs at once.
  4. Use the search box to filter the list when your document contains many IDs.
  5. Read the counter: 12 IDs found ยท 9 unique ยท 5 selected ยท 5 ID attributes will be removed.
  6. Copy the cleaned HTML or download it as an .html file.

๐Ÿ’ก Example 1: Remove one selected HTML ID

Input HTML:

<div id="header" class="site-header">
  <h1 id="title">My Website</h1>
</div>

Selected ID: header

Output HTML:

<div class="site-header">
  <h1 id="title">My Website</h1>
</div>

Only the id attribute is gone. The div element, its class, and the untouched id="title" remain exactly as they were.

๐Ÿ’ก Example 2: Remove all IDs from HTML

Input HTML:

<div id="header" class="site-header">
  <h1 id="title">My Website</h1>
</div>

Output HTML:

<div class="site-header">
  <h1>My Website</h1>
</div>

๐Ÿ’ก Example 3: Duplicate IDs

Invalid markup sometimes repeats the same ID. The list marks those entries with a counter such as 3ร— โ€” removes all occurrences, so it is always clear that selecting that ID cleans every occurrence at once.

<li id="item">One</li>
<li id="item">Two</li>
<li id="item">Three</li>

Output after selecting item:

<li>One</li>
<li>Two</li>
<li>Three</li>

๐Ÿ’ก Example 4: Single quotes, hyphens, underscores and numbers

Both quoting styles are supported, and ID values may contain hyphens, underscores, digits, colons, and dots.

<p id='intro_1'>Hello</p>
<section id="main-content-2">...</section>

Output after removing both IDs:

<p>Hello</p>
<section>...</section>

โš™๏ธ Optional: clean anchor links to removed IDs

By default, references such as <a href="#header"> are left untouched โ€” removing an ID does not automatically rewrite your links. If you do want to clean those broken jump links, enable the option Also clean href="#id" links that point to removed IDs. The link target is then reduced to #:

<a href="#header">Top</a>   โ†’   <a href="#">Top</a>

โญ When do you need to remove HTML IDs?

  • Cleaning exported HTML from page builders, CMS editors, or design tools that generate machine IDs
  • Preparing reusable HTML snippets, components, or templates that must not clash with page IDs
  • Fixing duplicate ID validation errors before running an HTML validator
  • Stripping tracking or analytics hooks tied to specific IDs
  • Building email templates where IDs add no value
  • Simplifying markup before handing it over to another developer

โš ๏ธ Things to keep in mind

  • CSS rules such as #header { ... } and JavaScript calls like getElementById('header') stop matching once the ID is removed.
  • Anchor links, aria-labelledby, aria-describedby, and <label for="..."> may reference IDs โ€” check accessibility before removing them.
  • Text that merely looks like an ID inside content or inside <script> and <style> blocks is never modified.
  • Attributes such as data-id, form-id, or itemid are not id attributes and are always preserved.

Frequently Asked Questions

It scans your HTML, detects every id attribute, and lets you remove the ones you select. Only the id="..." attributes are deleted โ€” elements, text content, and all other attributes remain unchanged.

Paste your HTML and click Select all in the Detected IDs list. Every detected id attribute is selected and stripped from the output instantly, while the rest of the markup stays identical.

Yes. Every unique ID is shown as a checkbox in the Detected IDs list. Tick only the IDs you want gone and leave the others selected-out; unselected IDs are copied to the output untouched.

Duplicate IDs are grouped into one list entry with a counter such as 3x. Selecting that entry removes all occurrences of that ID, which is useful for fixing duplicate ID validation errors.

Yes. The parser handles id="value", id='value', and even unquoted attribute values, so IDs are detected regardless of the quoting style used in your HTML.

Yes. Any valid HTML id value is supported, including hyphens, underscores, digits, dots, and colons, for example main-content-2 or intro_1.

No. Only id attributes are removed. class, style, data-*, aria-*, event handlers, and every other attribute are preserved exactly as written, including their original order and spacing.

No. The element stays in place with all of its content and remaining attributes. Only the id attribute itself is deleted, which is why the tool is safe for cleaning production markup.

By default, anchor references are left untouched so nothing outside the id attributes changes. If you enable the optional href cleanup, links pointing to removed IDs are reduced to href="#".

Yes. The tool performs a surgical removal of the selected attribute ranges instead of re-serializing the document, so line breaks, indentation, and whitespace stay exactly as you pasted them.

No. The HTML id remover runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Your code never leaves your device, so it is safe to clean private, internal, or unpublished HTML.

Yes. The tool uses a single-pass tokenizer and applies all removals in one rebuild, so even large HTML files with hundreds of IDs are processed quickly in the browser.

No. Content inside script, style, textarea, title elements and HTML comments is skipped, so text that merely looks like an id attribute is never modified by accident.

It can. CSS selectors such as #header and JavaScript lookups like document.getElementById("header") stop matching once the ID is removed, so review your stylesheets and scripts after cleaning.

Common reasons include cleaning generated markup from page builders and CMS exports, removing machine-generated IDs, fixing duplicate ID errors, preparing reusable snippets, and simplifying email or template HTML.
