⭐ Compare JSON Online - Find Differences Between JSON Files

This JSON comparison tool checks two JSON documents and reports added, removed, and changed values by their JSON path. It is useful for reviewing API responses, configuration files, data exports, and changes between versions.

⭐ What Does the JSON Compare Tool Show?

  • Compares JSON objects, arrays, strings, numbers, booleans, and null values.
  • Lists changed, added, and removed values with a path to each difference.
  • Ignores object key order while preserving array order.
  • Accepts pasted JSON or local .json and .txt files.
  • Lets you copy or download a readable differences report.
  • Processes both documents locally in your browser.

⚙️ How to Compare JSON Files

  1. Paste the original JSON into First JSON and the newer document into Second JSON, or select a file for each side.
  2. Select Compare JSON to validate and compare both documents.
  3. Review each difference by its JSON path and the old and new values.
  4. Copy the report or download it as a text file.

🔎 Example: Added and Changed JSON Values

First JSON:

{"name":"Ada","active":true}

Second JSON:

{"name":"Ada Lovelace","active":true,"city":"London"}

The comparison reports /name as changed and /city as added. Paths use JSON Pointer escaping, so a slash in a property name appears as ~1 and a tilde appears as ~0.

⚠️ Tips for Accurate JSON Comparison

  • Both inputs must be valid standard JSON; property names and strings require double quotes.
  • Object property order does not affect the comparison, but array item order does.
  • Numbers are compared as parsed JSON numbers, so formatting such as 1 versus 1.0 does not create a difference.
  • For very large inputs, the report is limited to the first 1,000 differences.

⭐ Private, Browser-Based JSON Diff

The JSON Compare tool reads and compares your input in your browser. Your files and JSON data are not uploaded to a server or stored by this tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

Paste the first JSON document on the left and the second on the right, or choose a local file for each field. Select Compare JSON to see added, removed, and changed values.

It reports values that changed, object properties or array items that were added, and properties or items that were removed. Each difference includes its JSON path.

No. Object properties are compared by key, so changing their order does not create a difference. Array order is significant and is compared by index.

Paths use JSON Pointer-style notation. The root is shown as a slash, nested properties use slash-separated names, and special slash or tilde characters in property names are escaped.

Yes. Array entries are compared by index. Added and removed entries are reported at the index where they occur.

Yes. The tool can compare any valid JSON value, including a root array, string, number, boolean, or null value.

Standard JSON requires double-quoted strings and property names, matching brackets, valid commas, and no comments or trailing commas. Check both inputs for syntax errors.

Yes. Use the file selector for each input to load .json or .txt files. The browser reads the files locally.

Yes. Copy places the text report on your clipboard, and Download .txt saves the report as json-differences.txt.

No. Both documents are parsed and compared in your browser. The tool does not upload or store your JSON data.

No. JSON numbers are compared after parsing, so different numeric formatting for the same value does not count as a change.

The report displays up to the first 1,000 differences to keep the browser output responsive for large comparisons.
